Kicker, then quote
- Chris Canty -

That's the advice of my Media Writing tutor, Chris Canty. He's a renowned freelance journalist, with loads of travel writing experience. I must say it is my great fortune to learn the art of Media Writing under his tutelage.

For those in the dark, a kicker is an interesting point that attracts readers to read on. After the kicker, a quote by the person interviewed usually follows. That's just a generic framework of writing but certainly, one can tweak it a little bit...

Today's 2 hour Media Writing Workshop was action packed as we learnt the basics of drafting an proper magazine profile plus interviewing techniques. Chris also showed us his illustrious library of works: from his recently published article on South Sudanese in Australia to his article on the Kookaburra Cafe in Ecuador. Amazing insights!

Now I've got to start working on my magazine profile. I've chosen MONOCLE, a UK based magazine as my reference as it is one magazine that I would love to write for in the near future. MONOCLE throws a cosmopolitan take on business, global affairs, culture and design. With it's pretty formal and occasionally light take on matters together with it's artistic layout of features, it strikes a chord with young minds like me.

Oh before I forget, don't forget to check out my tutor's website at http://www.ccanty.com/.
