The Circle of Life
- The Lion King 3D (2011) -

Yesterday was a trip down memory lane: A throw back to the good old days of yester years. Watched the epic Lion King in 3D just as the incessant rainfall came pattering down in Melbourne.

"Naah..zi pen yaaa...madidi chi hua hua." goes the tribal call according to my interpretation. Resounding as the "warcry" goes, the story began with Mufasa the Lion King announcing the birth of his heir, Simba. As an allusion to the nature of mankind, the jealousy of Simba's uncle Scar took hold as he plots and schemes to kill Mufasa and usurp the throne. Just like all new kids on the block, Simba was misled due to his curiosity (Curiousity kills the cat..how apt!) and eventually his playfulness led to the demise of his dad, Mufasa.

The highlight of the movie has never changed for me despite the years that have passed since I last watched/read Lion King. It was none other than Mufasa's death because the deafening silence when Simba cried for help almost brought me to tears. What a touching scene it was: a father's unconditional love and sacrifice for his child.

On a brighter side, Timon (meerkat) and Pumbaa (warthog) never disappointed with their tinge of humour and "happy-go-lucky" character pervaded through the movie. Of course, the song (Can You Feel The Love Tonight?) that has always struck a chord with me once again lived up to its expectations. I could hear people in the cinema singing along when the song came on (really, I'm not kidding!) and I meekly followed suit humming the tune. This song has impacted everyone of us to the extent that it now commonly features on the songlist of numerous weddings. Well done, Elton John! Your songs are really awesome:)

Then came the climax when Simba reclaimed the throne that was rightly his and reunited with his childhood sweetheard, Nala. For kids, the morals of such Disney stories never change as good once again triumphed over evil. Simple storyline but there's so much more to it when one reads between the lines.

After the movie, my friend shared with me the Russian version of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" scene. It was great but certainly I still felt the English version sounded better!. Well well...you can be the judge:

Honestly, I was so enchanted by the Lion King spectacle that I cannot help but think of the Lion King musical performed at Singapore's Marina Bay Sands. Sadly, when I checked the website, the show will end its operations on 30 October 2011 (which means I can't catch it when am back in Singapore for my summer holidays). ARGH! what a pity...have heard rave reviews of the musical and how resplendent the costumes were...Just hope they can extend the musical or maybe there will be another screening as this musical is supposedly the resident show of Marina Bay Sands.

So wait no more, go watch the movie again and walk down memory lane! It's such an integral part of one's childhood that one should relive for all time's sake...For those who haven't watched Lion King before, be enthralled!
